Yes. SSDI claimants that are awarded benefits will qualify for Medicare coverage, however, the coverage does not start for two years from the date you were first en_title_d to receive Social Security benefits. (In other words let's suppose you stopped work on 1/1/02. You cannot begin to receive monthly benefits until the sixth month thereafter because of the waiting period. Therefore, you would be eligible to receive your first monthly benefit on 6/1/02. Two years from 6/1/02 is when you will be en_title_d to Medicare benefits).
If you get Medicare and have a low income and little resources, your state may pay for your Medicare premiums and possibly deductibles and co-payments.
SSI claimants who are awarded benefits receive Medicaid immediately in most states. Only 16 states have no medically needy programs for their elderly, blind and disabled residents and they are: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming.
