Do I have to pay back welfare for anything they paid to me while I was waiting for my Social Security claim to go through?

Yes, I'm afraid you do have to pay some of it back. Your food stamps and health coverage do not need to be paid back. However any cash assistance does have to be paid back. Once you have won your Social Security disability claim, they will cross check the welfare data _base_ and find out if you need to reimburse any money. Social Security will then pay back any money you owe to welfare before they disburse your back benefits to you.
