Lisa Wagman Social Security has defined "substantial gainful activity" or "SGA" as follows:

A person who is earning more than a certain monthly amount (net of impairment-related work expenses) is ordinarily considered to be engaging in SGA. The amount of monthly earnings considered as SGA depends on the nature of a person's disability.

In 2006, Social Security will allow a person to earn up to $860 a month before they reach SGA level.

Steve I am strapped with bills from not working. I was told that taking a job at this level would not be harmful to my case. Is this true?
